It makes one wonder why members of Congress take that silly oath to "support and defend the Constitution" when they are sworn into office...

LEHIGH VALLEY TEA PARTY DONATES 600 POCKET CONSTITUTIONS TO SAUCON VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT
HELLERTOWN, PA, September 10, 2010
The Lehigh Valley Project 9/12 - Tea Party Group, the largest Tea Party organization in Pennsylvania, donated the 600 booklets which include the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and quotations from many of the Founding Fathers. The district plans to make the booklets available to students during Constitution Week beginning September 17.
"Education is the primary way we are achieving our mission of restoring appreciation for, and the practice of, the American principles of liberty, equal opportunity, and the recognition of the unalienable God-given individual rights that are so eloquently articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution,” said Kim Schmidtner, Organizer of the Lehigh Valley Project 9/12 Tea Party Group. “The education of future generations of Americans in these principles is critical to the preservation of our nation."
In addition to the pocket Constitutions, the group gave the district library two copies of the book, “The 5,000-Year Leap.” The book, by Cleon Skousen, lists how America’s Founding Fathers used 28 fundamental beliefs to create a society based on morality, faith, and ethics, which Skousen asserts have resulted in more progress that was achieved in the last 200 years than in the previous 5,000 years of every other civilization combined .
"The District appreciates the offer of the 600 pocket Constitutions and two books, which we will make available to students during Constitution Week," said Carl Atkinson, Assistant Superintendent, Saucon Valley School District.
Founded in the spring of 2009, the Lehigh Valley Project 9-12/Tea Party Group is the largest Tea Party group in Pennsylvania with over 1,280 followers. It is an educational, not-for-profit, non-partisan organization focused on teaching members and citizens about constitutionally limited government and many of the important issues of the day. Among them are taxes, immigration reform, health care, the Second Amendment, energy policy and more. The group also provides non-partisan information about candidates and elected officials, as well as opportunities for the public to meet and hear candidates at live forums.

-- “To live under the American Constitution,” said President Calvin Coolidge, “is the greatest political privilege that was ever accorded to the human race.” This school year, students in the Saucon Valley School District can learn the meaning behind Coolidge’s sentiments thanks to Lehigh Valley Project 9/12 – Tea Party Group, which donated 600 pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution.

The Move to Eliminate Local Government... Continued
Last month we had a post (read it here) on House Bill 2431, a proposed amendment to the Pennsylvania constitution to consolidate local governments to the county level. Now we have Senate Bill 1357 that proposes pretty much the same thing.
The latest on this story can be read here: Pennsylvania Independent
The argument is one that says that too much money is being wasted in duplication of services while the counter argument says that bigger governments are often inefficient, ineffective, and unresponsive to the concerns of the citizenry.
There have also been claims that only local government officials have objected to the proposals so far and that taxpayer response has been mostly favorable. Perhaps the story has not received the attention of the general public yet, or they haven't had a chance to make their opinion known.
If you would like to contact your state Representative or Senator and let them know how you feel about House Bill 2431 and Senate Bill 1357 an easy way to find them is through this PA government website:
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/find.cfm
From there it is easy to find your legislator's phone, e-mail, or other contact information.

The Revolt of the Bourgeois
Tea partiers are mad as heck, and they’re letting the world know — politely.
"The tea party’s detractors want to paint it as radical, when at bottom it represents the self-reliant, industrious heart of American life."A column by Rich Lowry at the National Review.

"The cohesion is around the very term 'Tea Party,' " Beckstrom says. "And the cohesion is held through the values — and it is values that hold large, decentralized networks together."An abridged article is found here.
