Bi-County Heath Board voted down by Northampton County

This past Monday evening members of the Lehigh Valley 9-12/Tea Party group attended a joint county council meeting to observe and express their opinions about a proposed Health Board that would have covered Lehigh & Northampton counties. Although greatly out numbered by experts and advocacy groups a few of us had a chance to get up to the microphone and speak about personal responsibility and the need for financial responsibility on the part of the county.

Ultimately the proposal failed to pass the Northampton County legislature in a 2-6 vote. Concern over costs, outside funding, and the economy were the chief reasons given. Without approval from both counties the proposed health department is dead.

Article in the Express-Times here.
For unique, opinionated, and more in-depth coverage of the meeting I recommend Lehigh Valley Ramblings.

LEHIGH VALLEY TEA PARTY EXPRESSES SADNESS AT NAACP RESOLUTION

On July 13, the Lehigh Valley Project 9/12 Tea Party Group Issued the following statement on the NAACP's resolution on the Tea Party Movement:

LEHIGH VALLEY TEA PARTY EXPRESSES SADNESS AT NAACP RESOLUTION

HELLERTOWN, PA, July 13, 2010 -- The Lehigh Valley Project 9-12/Tea Party Group, one of the largest Tea Party organizations in Pennsylvania, issued the following statement in response to a resolution on the Tea Party movement passed today by the NAACP at its annual convention:

“The Lehigh Valley Project 9-12/Tea Party Group will not waste our time defending our Movement against this bigoted, false and inflammatory resolution.

“We view the NAACP’s action, however, with a great deal of sadness that this once great voice that spoke with moral clarity on the rights of individuals has now become a shallow, partisan shill, thereby destroying the relations they once worked to strengthen. While the NAACP falsely labels the Tea Party as being racist, it chooses to ignore incendiary and irrational calls for violence against white people and their children made by members of the New Black Panther Party.

“It must be noted further that this resolution comes on the same day a major national poll reports that nearly two-thirds of the country has lost faith and confidence in the ability of the President, and even more Americans view Congress with less regard. Rather than a coincidence, this resolution is a disturbing attempt by the NAACP to inject race-baiting into the growing national discussion of the proper role of government, and paint with the broadest and most despicable brush those who question the policies of the Administration and Congress.

“By passing this resolution, the NAACP has abdicated its place as a serious, thoughtful voice on individual rights, race relations and public policy. In the end, the association today voted to make itself irrelevant, and that makes us sad. Very sad.”

Founded in the spring of 2009, the Lehigh Valley Project 9-12/Tea Party Group has attracted over 1,200 registered followers to become one of the largest Tea Party organizations in Pennsylvania. Its goal is to awaken as many Americans as possible to the slow deterioration of our Constitutional liberties that have occurred over the past 100 years. We The People need to reassert our authority given to us under The Constitution to get our country back on the path that was laid before us by the Founding Fathers and maintain America as the greatest nation that ever existed in the history of the world. Thoughts on tonight's meeting

Just came back from July's general meeting where State Representative Sam Rohrer was the guest speaker. One of the things he said really stuck in my mind.

I'm paraphrasing what he said:

"We have laws on the books that makes it a felony for a lobbyist to promise goodies for a lawmaker's district in exchange for his vote. But our political leaders obtain votes the same way by funding projects in a representative's district... we call them earmarks. This is how bad unpopular laws, "reforms", and tax increases are passed, the votes are bought. It's the same in Harrisburg and Washington"

Were you at the meeting? Anything that made an impression on you? Add them to the comment section...
