that one lay down his life for his friends.

You can find Memorial Day events & parades scheduled for the valley listed in the local papers:

As we enjoy this Memorial Day weekend let's remember those who have served our nation in wars, both foreign and domestic.  These people didn't ask to be sent to war but fought because our leaders either chose to do so or were forced to do so.  They served with honor and distinction and they deserve our gratitude.

Normally I would respond to a blog post on the blog it is written in, but to post comments on that site you must register.

I'm struck by the "These people didn't ask to be sent to war but fought because our leaders either chose to do so or were forced to do so."  line. How many of our young men and women have stepped up to the duty of serving knowing full well that it involved a war that was currently going on or on the horizon? I'm glad to see the author credit our fallen with honor and distinction, I'm just a bit taken back by the almost apologetic tone for them being there in the first place.

To me it's a stark reminder of the totally different mindset that is found under the title "Progressive". I understand the concept that we should "make war no more" and "beat our swords into plowshares...", but I also see the reality of the violent world we live in. Idealism is a wonderful thing until the world smacks you in the face and sends planes full of innocents flying into skyscrapers.

Someone has explained this mindset much better than I can here. If you can set aside 47 minutes of time I recommend listening to this Heritage Foundation Lecture: "How Modern Liberals Think"
